Background
As a computer science student, I wanted to utilize my skills to help others and gain more experience. I have a strong interest in web design and development, and wanted to explore this passion more by creating more sites using different technologies.
What is the problem?
Katie wanted to start a business but did not have the funds to pay someone to develop a website, and she did not have the time to learn how to do it herself. As a university student, she works for a dog walking company and was inspired to start her own from her passion for dogs.
What is the minimum viable product? (MVP)
The key goals of the project were to create an easily navigable website with clear information on the services offered, some background on her and the business, and a clear way to contact Katie. A gallery of dogs she has worked with was a requirement for the MVP.
What is the product roadmap?
October 2023: Problem identified. Downloaded a template to base the site around.
November 2023: Adapted the template code and developed some new ones to personalize the site to Katie and her business.
December 2023: Launched site on Netlify. Shared with Katie and edited the copy.
What is the user journey?
The user clicks on the link to Katie's site. They are taken to a homepage with an clear navigation bar. As they scroll down, they can read the services, more about Katie, and the hours available. After clicking on the Gallery button on the navigation bar, the site shows a gallery of various dogs Katie has worked with. Clicking on an image will make it bigger and clearer and you can click next or back to view a different image. After clicking Contact, the user will be shown the business email and what to include in an email to receive a service. When the site is opened on a phone, the site will be easily readable as well.
How do we measure success?
Although I have not set up analytics on the site yet, I identified some key performance indicators (KPI's) to measure success in the future.
