Lean UX

A prototype developed utilizing lean UX principles.
Role: Product Owner

Background

During my fourth year at University of Guelph, I took the class Human Computer Interaction. This class utilized lean UX principles to build a better project management tool. We first ran a market analysis on current project management tools to identify potential improvements for marketing directly to students.

What is the problem?

Paywalls: Students want to utilize full features of project management tools but do not have access to the funds that large businesses utilize.

What is the minimum viable product? (MVP)

The key goals of the project were to identify assumptions, business problems and outcomes, and create user personas. To derive hypotheses from these assumptions, test hypotheses, then implement those hypotheses that have been validated with your user population.
The minimum viable product (MVP) included a low fidelity prototype, a study on our target users, and an improved prototype based off user feedback.

What is the product roadmap?

September 2023: Conducted market analysis. Identified business problems, business outcomes, and brainstormed users.
October 2023: Conducted a survey to collect data and create hypotheses. Created a low-fidelity prototype.
November 2023: Performed an experiment study on users, gathered data and improved prototype based on user needs.

What is the user journey?

User navigates to the site homepage and can click on create an account. After selecting that they are a student and creating an email and password, they are immediately able to access the premium features for free. A user can set up a project and create tasks. There is a clear button labeled "create automation rule" and after clicking it, the user is taken to a page with two drop-downs labeled action and trigger. The user can select an action and a trigger, as well as select tasks for the rule to apply to. After creating the rule, a popup message is shown to confirm that the rule creation was successful.

How do we measure success?

Although the website has not yet reached a product launch or user testing, I identified some key performance indicators (KPI's) to measure success in the future.
For 100% of students signing up, 100% are able to use premium features right away.
For 100% of users that sign up, 50% use for at least one semester.
For 100% of users, 50% create at least 1 automation rule.
